From Modern to Contemporary Art: Movements of the 20th Century

The course is an introduction to fifty essential years in the history of 20th Century European and American Art; a period encompassing from the end of the Second World War until the 1980s responsible for the aesthetical and conceptual foundations for today’s art.

The course is structured as a survey covering the most significant artistic movements within a period regarded as an inflection point between two distinctive artistic paradigms: the Modern and the Contemporary.
As a colophon, the course will discuss a number of essential contemporary Singaporean artists in connection with the artistic movements, concepts and issues analysed in the course.
